Horizon of Hope® CampaignDr. Robert Smith is no stranger to the Longaberger Company. His relationship with us began in 1995 while planning the initial Horizon of Hope campaign. Dr. Bob, as he is affectionately known in the Longaberger community, is a cancer epidemiologist and Director of Cancer Screening at the National Office of the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia. He also is Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University School of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor of Hematology/Oncology at the Winship Cancer Center, Emory University school of medicine. His primary research interests are evaluation of cancer screening programs, adherence to cancer screening recommendations, and quality issues related to cancer screening. He received his PhD from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1983. Prior to joining the staff at the ACS, he held positions with the Boston University School of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control. He is the author of over 200 scientific articles, reports and book chapters. He serves on many international, U.S. national and federal advisory committees and working Groups, and presently is the Co-Chair of the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable. In 1995, Dr. Smith was made an Honorary Fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging. |
